Dove sei nato?
⸻
All’inizio ho giocato come un normale giocatore: raccoglievo AB, facevo mini-giochi e sondaggi, pensando di imparare man mano.
⸻
Puoi dirci, indicativamente, quanti AB guadagni dalle tue posizioni?
⸻
E se potessi portare qualcosa dall’Italia in Inghilterra, cosa sceglieresti?
(Tranquillo, la pizza non vale! 😄)
Ahah, quindi non posso dire “pizza all’ananas”?

Hi Lews, thanks for taking the time to talk with us. You’re the first non-American player to hold such an important role in the game.
Where were you born?
Hi, and thank you for having me!
I’m born and raised in UK but in terms of ethnicity, chinese.
I live in Cornwall so based in the South West of England.
How did the name “Lews Therin” come about? Does it have a special meaning or come from one of your personal interests?
When I started the game for the first probably month or 2 I drifted between names. None really stuck. Around 2 months of playing I was growing pretty quick and started to think I maybe in with a chance of going top if I played my cards right.
So Lews Therin came about out of 2 things really:
1) I am a fan of the wheel of the time series of fantasy books, which I was reading at the time and love the names of the characters and wanted to adopt one of the names.
2) A bit of a tongue in cheek play on the overall negative opinion that I was reading of the previous PM at the time that you couldn’t mistake that if he was going to be anyone from the books it was “The Dark One”. As I was planning to mount a challenge at some point if he was characterised as the dark one then his adversary would be none other than Lews Therin.
Don’t get me wrong it could have gone completely wrong and I would just be another wannabe challenger but sometimes your plans need a bit of luck.
⸻
What do you do in real life?
I work in the healthcare profession as a pharmacist. It’s a job that I enjoy as it’s a combination of looking after people and application of science. Directly you wouldn’t think it has a whole lot of read across to playing the game, whether it’s for fun or to make some money. However it’s a job where overall you need to be analytical, logical and have attention to detail. All thinks that can help in the game.
⸻
How long have you been playing Atlas Earth, and how did you first discover it?
I started Atlas Earth in November 2024 and I found it through an ad that appeared on my social media feed while I was scrolling and watching funny short videos to pass the time.
I don’t normally give mobile games that pop up on my feed a go, they tend to be a disappointment, however like a lot of people I do at times put some money to get ahead in mobile games so the potential to earn or at least get cashback caught my eye long enough to do a bit of research into it. The added attraction of this app was potentially the earnings would be recurring for as long as the app lasted. The theme of buying virtual property was interesting as over time I have gotten more interested in investing (mainly stocks and shares) so I was interested to see how I would fare in an investment style game like this. I travel for work but not as much as compared to a lot of jobs as you’d imagine for what I do but I do like to see different places and am a keen hiker and runner so playing a geo-location game as well just made sense as I could combine interests I had with it.
⸻
Did you start as a regular player, collecting AB and doing missions, or did you already know you were going to go all in from the start?
I definitely set out to be a regular player collecting AB, doing the mini games and surveys but thought I could very much learn as I played the game as I often do. So I had navigated the screens on the app and knew about a lot of the main functions but was blissfully unaware of some of the strategies players that had really read up about game already knew. I think that is the difference between how I invest and how I play games, with investing there is a lot more background research that goes in before I make a decision whereas with games you see it as a pastime so you have a different mind set. So for example when I found out about tier jumping, I was already missing the benefits of it and following the strategy had limited value to me by that time. So mistakes were made in the first 4-8 weeks of play that maybe I wouldn’t have made if I did treat the game like an investment.
Those missteps that I’d made did change the pace I played the game and this is where money from apps like Freecash helped when I still wasn’t that keen to put my own money in. In terms of the all in decision came around early May 2025 when the previous PM made his move to take Japan. The cost of the move he did I just felt like was a strategically now or never window to strike and if I wasn’t breaking from cover then I might as well concentrate on breakeven as there was not going to be a better chance. So that is when I consciously decided to bridge the then approx 2.5k parcel gap to the top where the parcels required for the top was 6001 parcels.
So I think silly mistakes started the ball rolling but calculated opportunism sealed what you see now and my journey to joining the crazy gang of AE players that are called whales.
⸻
Do you remember where you bought your very first plot? ⸻
Yeah, I bought it in the train station of my home town. At the time I figured lots of people would buy a badge waiting for a train as they’d be on they’re phone. Whether it always works I don’t know but I like the idea of buying in train stations as people are on a journey just like in the game and with all journeys it’s not where you are but where you’re heading that matters.
⸻
Let’s talk a bit about England.
What’s the situation like there? Is there a lot of competition among players, or do people tend to collaborate more?
I think in England there are quite a lot of players for the relative short time the game has been out here, where it is just over a year old. I imagine the game here has a similar mix of players to Italy for the reasons they play too.
However as it has been out a year you get the expected places like the cities becoming more expensive in terms of parcel count to hold mayor as players become more established in the game. Since I took the England PM title in late May 2025 governorships are definitely harder to take. Competition for titles and governorships is still relatively local but give it a year or 2 and that will change. There are a few players like me who branch out but not that many.
I would say the mini games see’ s more competition because it doesn’t matter what you can afford or can’t afford but on skill, reaction times and practice. As people are largely starting equal, they feel more enabled to go for it whereas going for the titles and in particular the more marquee titles (like London, Birmingham, Manchester) you inevitably have to calculate if putting your own cash behind it is worth the reward and whether it is something you are willing to risk. You will always get areas where you can take stuff as F2P though.
I would say collaborations don’t happen that much but are more likely to occur if players are joined to official or unofficial AE communities like on discord. You will see players go for non-compete agreements from time to time. This makes sense as why would you waste your ab fighting each other when you can agree a way to co-exist. You only then leave yourself open to other players picking you off afterwards following what could be an unnecessary scrap for a title.
⸻
Have you ever had any interesting rivalries (strictly in-game, of course)? Do you have a precise strategy for expanding in England, or do you mostly go with your instincts?
I think so far I haven’t had any interesting local rivalries as they have been short lived and didn’t escalate once I broke clear. 1 may get a bit interesting but that will need me to fire the gun on that as it is in an area I am not local to. It looks like that player specifically targeted me as they took 7 mayorships in succession in the area that I got when I visited earlier in the year while doing a hiking event. They have the advantage of being local but I plan to visit the area again in the next year or so as I really enjoyed the area itself so watch this space…. Revenge buys/attacks don’t really interest me that much as though they’d be satisfying in the moment whether I gain anything game wise or psychologically is questionable. However never say never but I try to look at whether there is any point getting areas I lose back based on in game benefits.
The one rivalry I did expect to take off was with the previous PM of England who is US based and a top 10 player. However things have changed for him and he is largely passively playing currently due to personal reasons and ill health. I have wished him well personally via discord as what goes on in game stays in game. I will be interested to see what he does when he returns. I know his goals in England have changed.
I definitely have a more precise strategy now than when I started for expanding. As you can tell my early days didn’t really go how I thought it would go. Areas I expand to are either ones I am visiting or I would definitely have wanted to visit anyway. So for example if I’m in the London area it wouldn’t be just for playing Atlas Earth alone. Once I know I am visiting is when I start to do my homework on the whole area to gauge whether to buy and if so where, how many parcels etc or just go and enjoy the visit. It isn’t an exact science but due to the breadth of areas I hold I can now adopt a more balanced approach between data and instinct.
⸻
How much time do you spend playing each day? Are you the type who plans everything, or do you just play when you feel like it?
There are set things like boosting, doing my diamond wheel spins, completing challenge ladder tasks and getting my daily login ab that I plan for.
Things like playing the full mini game are things I will do when I feel like it or have time.
⸻
Can we ask roughly how many AB you earn from your positions?
At the moment my monthly ab from badges is a 4 figure number.
Lets leave it at and say that 5k ab a month is a conservative figure to use.
⸻
Right now, do you feel motivated to keep expanding, or are you in a phase where you feel satisfied with what you’ve achieved?
I am motivated to keep expanding even though I am on top in England but I haven’t really decided firmly where and when.
⸻
We’re curious — a player with so many plots, do you still spend time during the day collecting free AB here and there? ⸻
Yeah, I definitely try and collect free ab when I can but now I have so many plots and accrue a reasonable amount in rent each month I definitely don’t grind as hard as when I started out. I would say I mainly only do surveys and arcade for the challenges. I think apps like Freecash are better for earning money (that can then potentially be used to buy ab through the website) than the AE arcade. Surveys I get screened out of a lot so the time to ab ratio is often not worth it for me bar the challenges. With the free ab for watching an ad I’ll do after I boost or play a mini game. I don’t collect it religiously every 20mins though.
The only activity I do that hasn’t changed since I started was trying to remain boosted.
⸻
In the past few months, many American players have started expanding into Europe. Have you been in touch with any of them? What’s your take on this trend?
Apart from through the official discord channel or those Americans who have joined the UK discord channel I haven’t really been in touch with any of the American players who have chosen to play internationally. However 1 or 2 of the big names have reached out to say hi and offer some tips, which was nice.
The game has been out in America for a few years now and the level of competition is high from what I can see particularly if you want to be a governor. Definitely if I was US based I would likely only hold 1 or 2 governorships at best there. As the ad rates are better and they have AMP in the US their ab earning potential is much higher than here in England before you even have to think about buying packs etc.
Players in the US are alive to this and definitely are using it to their advantage. You can’t begrudge them for doing this as they are playing within the rules and I think if the roles were reversed I’d think of doing the same thing. It definitely can make it harder for players like us to grow and take titles though when they do come out to play. However it is not impossible to come out on top as I’ve shown but it definitely doesn’t come cheap competing against them. I think in the early stages being based in a part of England where US players are less likely to visit was an advantage as I could grow competing only with mainly UK based players. If I’d lived in say London I definitely would have to think more carefully about strategy whether that was concentrating my parcels in 1 area or buy outside of London.
In Atlas Earth, positions in England are among the most competitive ones — which title do you value the most?
I think the England prime minister title is the obvious answer here.
⸻
Have you ever thought about expanding outside of England, maybe in Italy?
Definitely, have thought about expanding in Atlas Earth outside of England but though I never say never as that is the easiest lie to tell I wouldn’t set my sites greater than to the wider UK and Ireland at the moment. The game has this way of becoming a part of your normal life with the boosting, placing parcels and doing challenges and I would really regret going abroad to say Rome and seeing the Colosseum or going to the Derby della Capitale at the Stadio Olimpico and seeing a series of 30*30 square feet tiles and 20 ab badges rather than the experience it really is.
⸻
Would you say Atlas Earth is more of a pastime or a real investment for you?
It definitely is becoming more like an unsecured investment that is for sure. So therefore I don’t take the money I have put in for granted and for as long as the game lasts I will look to breakeven and profit.
However I still see it more as a pastime than an investment.
⸻
Do you think this game will last for a long time, or has it already reached its peak?
I think it will last and with the addition of new features like landmarks and expanding to new countries there is growth potential. So I don’t think Atlas Earth has reached it’s peak.
I hope the developers pay attention to improving features and ironing out glitches that are already in the game than expanding to fast into new features.
⸻
If you could change just one thing in the game, what would you ask the developers to improve or add? ⸻
I definitely would like to see the players being allowed to pay for their subscriptions like Explorer Club and the Premium Challenge ladder directly out of their accrued rent. At the moment you have to withdraw it to pay for it from you bank account which I think is quite pointless.
⸻
Now something a bit more personal.
What kind of music do you usually listen to?
I listen to a wide variety of music like pop rock, country and r’n’b but I don’t have a favourite genre. I definitely lean towards the more easy listening stuff like Ed Sheeran and One Republic though. I definitely don’t try and keep up to date with the latest trends. I’m already to old for that hehe.
⸻
What do you like to do when you’re not playing?
I’m a keen hiker and runner so playing a geo-location based game is something that sits well with these hobbies. I enjoy playing badminton, tennis and swimming too.
Outside of sports and outdoor activities I enjoy going to the cinema and having a quiet drink with friends at the pub.
⸻
What’s the most beautiful place you’ve visited in your country?
I’m not sure I have 1 that is the most beautiful but 1 that is definitely up there is St Nectan’s Glen in Cornwall. There is something quite peaceful and relaxing about being around places like waterfalls.
⸻
And if you could bring one thing from Italy to England, what would it be? (and no, pizza doesn’t count ) ⸻
Haha, you mean I can’t say pineapple on pizza? I definitely am a big fan of cheese and in Italy you definitely have an amazing variety across your country.
⸻
Thanks a lot, Lews, for your time — it’s been a real pleasure chatting with you!
Would you like to say hello to the ItAtlas community with a special message?
Thank you ItAtlas for having me and carry on doing all the good work you are for helping players progress in Atlas Earth no matter there reasons for starting out on their AE journey.
The game is about competition, strategy, titles and hopefully making some money but I’d say remember the world is so much more than a series of 30*30 squares hoping to find elusive legendary squares with golden trees, enjoy where you visit and hopefully you will have some great memories not just in but out of the game.
Hope to see some of you on the official discord or join and say hi on the unofficial Atlas Earth Community discord!
